Thank you To The Mandrake Family from East Bay, Maine

Good afternoon, East Bay.

I am pleased to share some unexpected and wonderful news with our community. I would have posted this sooner, but I just couldn’t compete with Finch and the Fireworks.

Earlier today, the Town received an extraordinarily generous financial gift from the Mandrake family, the new owners of the former Pibble property overlooking the harbor. Their generosity came as a complete surprise and will benefit East Bay for many years to come.

After consulting with the Select Board, a significant portion of these funds will be directed toward the complete repaving of Main Street and Pier Street during the coming year. Anyone who has driven either road lately knows this investment is long overdue.

Another substantial portion of the gift has been designated for East Bay High School. Principal Scott has informed me that these funds will strengthen the school’s athletic programs, and he tells meβ€”with no shortage of optimismβ€”that East Bay is about to have its best football season yet.

There will be more information to share as projects move forward, but today is simply a good day for our town.

Finally, I am honored to announce that the East Bay Observatory has been formally recognized by the Town as the first Official Historical Building of East Bay. It’s a landmark that has watched over our community for generations, and it is fitting that it receive this designation as it begins a new chapter in the Mandrake family’s possession.

On behalf of the Select Board and the people of East Bay, thank you to Mr. Martin Mandrake and family for your extraordinary generosity and for choosing to invest your future community.
